How long have you been writing?
I have always loved to make up stories and I have been writing as a hobby since I was very young, but I have only been writing seriously for about 18 months now. I had the idea for Danny Boy and it nagged and nagged at me until I put pen to paper. I showed a couple of people and their feedback was really positive so I decided to publish it on Amazon and see what people thought. It's incredibly difficult in the beginning as you are putting a piece of yourself 'out there' for all to see and it's quite nerve wracking!
Who would you say were your influences?
I'm a huge fan of Cecelia Ahern and Mitch Albom, as well as Terry Pratchett. One of the latest stories I am working on, Pieces of Me, is definitely influenced by Cecelia Ahern - the idea is something I could see her writing about; I just hope I can do it the justice that she would! I would probably say Danny Boy was influenced quite a lot by the books I have read by Torey Hayden; I went through a phase of reading nothing but her novels! Generally I am a big reader, and when I have the time I can read 4-5 books a week so my influences come from many writers.
You have been called 'a talent to watch', how do you feel about that?
Honoured! It's still very early days in my writing career but to have that said already is great motivation to keep going. I've been lucky enough to have received some very positive comments but I know that inevitably there will be negatives ones too. You cannot please everyone no matter how hard you try! I have only written books so far that I would like to read myself - and that my Mum has given the seal of approval to as well! If she doesn't like it, it doesn't get published.
