A little late in the day, sorry (I had a little nap, that turned in to a few hours!). Here is a little Monday inspiration for you which popped up on my Facebook newsfeed today.
Today I played with Lego with my little nephew, Sam. We (I) built a garage, a house, a shop, a car wash and lots of cars!
It was such fun and Sam said he likes me 'today', ha!
He has such a fantastic imagination, and found lots of 'extras' in the Lego box such as oranges for the workers in the garage to snack on, lights and cameras for the roof of the garage and 'tools to fix the cars with.
I can certainly see what Mum always said about 'you can never be miserable when Sam is about', it's certainly true!
Sorry for my lack of posts - I have just come home from Egypt! I've had a very lovely holiday - much needed. I have been editing Telling Tales ready for publishing in paperback and catching up on some reading.
Pieces of Me had been on a break but I will be getting back to Celeste and her adventures very soon. A close friend is getting married tomorrow so I have come back home to a very lovely weekend.
I hope every one of you is well! Thanks for stopping by :)
So I got stuck in traffic on my way to Mum's tonight; what should have been a 5-6 minute drive took about 35 minutes!
But, being a creative person, while the traffic stood still my mind wondered and I noticed that the blossom is starting to bloom on the trees near where I work. Then a little further along I saw all the beautiful colours in the sky as the sun began to set.
Before I knew it the traffic was moving and I was peaceful and calm having spotted all the lovely things I wouldn't normally notice!
A sound like a lawn mover echoes through the building; its mechanical hum vibrating through my ears.
The sound brings to me the sense of Summer and I close my eyes and allow my mind to drift.
I feel the warmth of the sun on my skin, the light burns red through my eyelids and the smell of freshly mown grass tickles my nostrils. I immediately relax and enjoy the way my senses being aroused by such a simple sound.
The hum fades away in to the distance, leaving me once more sat at my desk in an air conditioned, windowless office. I shudder, the sense of warmth now replaced by goose bumps on my flesh from the cool air.
I will be going on holiday for a couple of weeks soon and I will (hopefully) get to spend some serious writing time whilst basking in glorious sunshine! As a little gift, I was thinking of publishing my short stories (past and future) on my website along with my flash fiction posts... what do you guys think??? I'm hoping it will make my writing my accessible to a wider audience (i.e. those without ebook readers) and hopefully increase sales for my full-length books and novellas in the long run! All feedback is much appreciated!
My Mum finally came home from hospital yesterday! So tonight I finished work and went straight round to see her and have spent the evening curled up next to her in bed and watching TV together.
I'm back home now and working on The Entity after some feedback from friend and fellow writer, Colin Frankel.
I am introducing a couple of smaller characters into the story and adding some dialogue to give the characters more depth and dimension and also to add to the 'spook'!
I hope you have all had a good week so far; we're half way to the weekend now!
My Mum first introduced me to reading as a very small girl; she herself reads pretty much a book a day as a regular occurrence.
My favourite childhood books include the Mr Twiddle tales by Enid Blyton, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott and The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgson Burnett.
As an adult I love For One More Day and The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom, A Place Called Here by Cecelia Ahern and The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Evans.
And, of course Bridget Jones' Diary and The Edge of Reason! So I am excited to see that there is a new book in the series! Although, like many of you, I'm a little unsure about the lack of Mark Darcy!
Has had a really lovely evening out with work-mates as a treat from one of our suppliers.
I have lived in Birmingham all of my life and it has never occurred to me to view the city by canal boat. But this was part one of the evening.
We went aboard the canal boat Jericho and had an hour long tour of the city through it's historical canals. It was so relaxing to sit back and watch the city slowly go by as the sun began to set.
Then it pulled right up outside the restaurant we were eating at; an Oriental fusion place. The food was amazing, and - as it was paid for - I indulged in a few cheeky cocktails.
