Interview with Ciara Knight
So Ciara, tell us a little bit about yourself. Between my husband, three sons, two cats and a dog, I'm the only female out of eight in my home. Let’s just say I've learned to embrace camping, playing video games and driving jeeps and fast cars. Actually, I'm the one who was the hiker, mountain biker and world backpacker before meeting my husband. I absolutely love to travel and I hope to travel to every continent by the time I’m too old to walk. Of course, I also LOVE to read. Some of my favourite books are Ender’s Game, Redeeming Love and Misery. How did you come to be a writer? I’ve always been a story teller, but it wasn’t until after all my kids were born that I wrote my first novel. One of my boys has some special learning needs and I wanted to show him that anything was possible, so I wrote a novel. Since I, too, have language issues it makes it challenging to be a writer, but I’ve found my voice and with computers nothing will stop me from showing my children their dreams are within reach with hard work and determination. Tell us about your book in 50 words or less. Ten years after the Great War of 2185, the self-proclaimed queen rises from the ashes and impoverishes or enslaves all those who oppose her. The only hope for freedom rests in the hands of Semara, the queen's daughter, who must trust the love of a slave to lead a rebellion. How did you get your idea? The main theme of the series struck me while watching the news one day. There was a horrible genocide going on in some remote country and it touched me. I wanted to give those poor people a voice. That’s why the dedication is: Be bold. Be brave. Be free. What are you working on now? I’m working on an edgy, new adult contemporary set in Atlanta, GA mixed heavily in the straight edge community. Do you have any advice for people considering becoming a writer? If it is truly what you want to do, write, write and then write some more. The best thing to do is finish the first novel. Writing the words ‘THE END’ have a magical power over someone. It proves you can do it. What is your favourite book and why? Oh, that’s not fair. LOL, I have so many. One of my most recent reads that I loved was Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout. What do you hope to achieve as a writer? I’d love to touch reader’s hearts, bring them to tears and have the characters still in their minds and souls weeks after they close the book. |
